SouthHouse Basenjis

SouthHouse Basenjis is located in Northeast Missouri. The name SouthHouse comes from our last name, Sorhus, which means South House in Norwegian. My husband's name is Steven, my name is Meg, and we have a two year old son named Michael. I have owned dogs all of my life, but purchased my first Basenji in 2000 while in college.

For my husband and myself, Basenjis are the perfect dog. We love their intelligence, athleticism, quirky behavior, and cleanliness. However, Basenjis are also very naughty when bored and have a reputation for outsmarting their owners. They are a sight hound and as such should not be allowed off leash unless closely supervised. I do take my Basenjis trail riding with me, but I have been training with them since puppyhood to stay with me.

Our dogs are health tested and conformation Champions before they are bred. Puppies are raised in the home as part of the family and extensively socialized. Our 3 year old son handles them daily so our pups are usually good with children.
